I, too, have a book of quotes that I have kept for years and will dust off today. Thanks for sharing. Inspired by this post, I am going to review personal habits that are in alignment with the principles encapsulated in the quotes. Most I have been practicing for so long that they have become invisible. My thoughts are shaped by slogans that I tell myself like the hard way is the easy way, slow down to get there faster, and simplicity is the best way to deal with complexity. Time to excavate and record them, so I can share them. That's what the Wisdom Years are about. Thanks again Kyle, you have struck a chord.
Thank you Judith! I like the phrase, “my thoughts are shaped by the slogans I tell myself.” Those slogans can either be encouraging mantras or defeating patterns that cause unnecessary resistance leading to an emotional chain reaction. Appreciate you
I love me my quotes as well. However, I'd describe myself as a polisher than a collector. I used to collect a wide variety of quotes as well, loved reading em and saving them into my phone.
But the more I saved, the more I forget. My brain, in it's innate love of novelty, seeks new ones and forgets the old -- after all, I've already saved them.
Over time I found that saving a few quotes that strike close to home works best for me. I take a quote I love, lock it in, and take it out to "polish" it in times of uncertainty. But I do agree, quotes are powerful -- they shape what you tell yourself, and what you tell yourself shapes you.
Great point. Can’t remember them all. I like to have a bunch at my disposal such a nearby book or journal to read and reflect on whenever but I completely agree with you. Have to filter the ones that resonate with you the most down to a manageable number so they can be applied or used as mantras.
Life is exactly this, letting go, yet to never give up. Thank you for this.. It is exactly where we are in life. This space. In who we are.
Thank you Deborah 👊🏻
