This post is amazing, I have goosebumps! I had a similar situation, I had a premonition the night before my uncle had a seizure. We were all on vacation in Radium, and I kept saying "something bad is happening, something bad is happening:. He had epilepsy, but loved to swim, and sadly he drowned during our vacation. It's a moment I'll never forget. So glad your Mom had you watching out for her and that your dream was so timely. What a lovely photo!
I've come back to read this post a few times since you published it. Each time, I enjoy it more. It's so powerful and moving. One of the best posts that I can remember reading. Thanks for sharing--and I'm so impressed you have such good recall. (Mine is terrible.) Also, here's to rotary phones and waterbeds! 😄
Thank you very much Sheridan. That means a lot coming from you. It’s definitely my first CORE memory and a story I’ve told many times with inputs from my dad and mom who recall their respective parts.
I can tell the story easy but it was a surreal experience to write about. As you know, writing offers insights that other forms of expression don’t as easily. Trying to tell more stories this year whenever I can.
Thanks for your kind words, Kyle, and I look forward to more of your stories. And I agree with you about the insight that writing brings, especially writing about memories. It can be useful in so many ways! I find the act can have a lot of catharsis, and give perspective and distance that wasn’t there before. Do your parents’ memories of the experience fit with yours? I’ve found some of my core memories differ dramatically from other people’s who shared the experiences with me.
They do now but we had initially remembered parts slightly differently as I began telling the story to others more in my teenage years. Small details that we pieced together.
Amazing Kyle, this article had me glued to the screen while reading. Though I was hoping to find answers I feel like I have more questions than before haha. Anyways, thanks for sharing this experience and for the great read 🙌
I love you Kyle. Thank you for being my real life guardian Angel❤️
😘
Grateful for you and your bravery at such a young age. Sorry I put you through all of that.
No need to apologize for things you can’t control. Love you too

Thank you for sharing too. I’m sorry for your loss. Beyond understanding to know where premonitions like that come from. Wild

Very interesting—and a core part of the family experience :) Shared memories, and shifting memories.
Kyle, at 4 years old you were the calmer of the two of us. Thank God you were there. So proud of you!
Thanks dad
