Intentional Stress Challenge: Deliberate Heat Exposure
Progressive challenge relating to deliberate heat exposure to train resilience.
Deep in the summer months, especially this year, everyone’s air conditioners (who are lucky enough to own them) are putting in work. Go check your thermostat to see what it’s set to if you don’t already know. I bet it’s within 3 degrees of 72. We live in a perpetual state of comfortable temperature year round. If we happen to let it get colder in our houses, we can compensate with layers of clothing, blankets or a fire. It’s more difficult, however, to cool your body down at home without electrical help. Avoidance of feeling over heated causes many to pursue air conditioned comforts, restrict movement, and limit time outdoors during the heat of the day. When people hear that a great way to prevent sunburn is to wear long sleeves and pants when spending extended time outdoors, it’s easier to find something else to do. Many people hate to sweat.
